WHEN THE MUSIC ENDS, THE OUTFIT STAYS — Von Dutch and The Sounds Project Capture the Culture Beyond the Stage
by Dive on Asterisme / August 7th, 2026
For a generation that grew up documenting every show, every wristband, and every fleeting moment on stage, festivals have evolved into cultural spaces where fashion, community, and identity exist alongside the performances themselves. What people wear has become as much a part of the experience as the artists on the lineup, reflecting a broader shift in how live music is consumed—not simply as entertainment, but as a lifestyle.
That changing relationship between music and fashion has become increasingly visible across Indonesia's festival landscape, and few collaborations have reflected that evolution as consistently as Von Dutch and The Sounds Project.
Now entering its fourth consecutive year, the partnership has developed beyond the framework of a seasonal merchandise release. Since first collaborating in 2022, both brands have continued to refine the collection each year, responding to an audience whose expectations extend beyond commemorative apparel. Festival clothing is no longer designed solely to mark attendance; it is expected to become part of everyday wardrobes, carrying the visual identity of the event long after the final performance has ended.
This year's collection reflects that progression.
Comprising approximately sixteen pieces, the latest release combines apparel with a selection of accessories inspired by concert culture. Rather than focusing exclusively on event-specific branding, the collection balances festival aesthetics with functional silhouettes intended for repeated use beyond the three-day event. The result is a line that acknowledges the growing overlap between streetwear, music culture, and contemporary lifestyle.
To introduce the collaboration, Von Dutch invited two musicians from this year's The Sounds Project lineup: Friska, the vocalist of White Chorus, and singer-songwriter Bilal Indrajaya. Although their musical approaches occupy different corners of Indonesia's independent scene, both artists represent a generation whose influence extends beyond recorded music. Their involvement reflects the increasingly fluid relationship between musicians and fashion, where artists often become cultural references shaping how audiences express themselves both on and off the stage.
The collaboration also arrives alongside this year's festival theme, "Beyond Memories," an idea centered on the lasting impact of shared experiences. While performances inevitably conclude and stages are dismantled, the emotional resonance of a festival often continues through photographs, conversations, friendships, and the objects people choose to keep. Apparel has become one of those enduring artifacts, functioning less as merchandise and more as a physical reminder of a specific moment in time.
That perspective informs the direction of this year's collection. Rather than producing garments intended solely for the duration of the festival, Von Dutch approaches the collaboration as an extension of the experience itself—designing pieces that remain relevant after audiences leave the venue and return to everyday life.
The collection will be available throughout The Sounds Project, taking place on August 7–9, 2026, at Booth 19, while selected items have also been released in advance through TikTok Shop, Shopee, and Von Dutch Indonesia flagship stores across Jakarta, Bandung, Bali, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and Medan.
Four years after the partnership first began, the collaboration has become more than an annual product release. It stands as a reflection of how Indonesia's festival culture continues to evolve—where clothing is no longer simply something worn to a concert, but part of the stories, identities, and memories audiences carry with them long after the amplifiers fall silent.
